Tips for your phone and battery

A modern phone battery wears from heat and from sitting at a full charge, not from skipping a drain to zero.

Charging

• Turn on optimized charging, or an 80% limit, on Android and on iPhone. The name in Settings changes by maker: Battery, then Charging.
• Do not leave the phone in the heat, or in a closed car in the sun.
• Use the original charger or an approved one. A cheap unapproved charger is what causes damage, not using the phone while it charges.

What else keeps the phone healthier

• Install system updates. They close holes and fix battery handling.
• Clear storage: duplicate photos, old videos, and apps you never open.

A myth you can drop

You do not need to drain the battery to the end. A full drain wears a lithium battery. Charge before the phone shuts off, and leave the 80% limit on when the phone has one.
